In 1979 Mr. Wisdom began twelve years of service as a member of the Board of Directors of Cabrillo Federal Credit Union, a financial institution with more than $40 million in assets, with ten of those years as its chairman.
Mr. Wisdom, as an FBI agent, investigated a wide array of criminal matters, including fugitives, labor violations, and organized crime. His greatest achievements came in the white collar area, where he specialized in fraud. He conducted numerous seminars and served as a panelist and speaker on various aspects of fraud investigation and litigation. Mr. Wisdom has directed numerous international investigations, including advance fee loan scams, commodity futures contract fraud, RICO, money laundering, and international telemarketing fraud.
In 1986, to combat fraud in telemarketing, Mr. Wisdom formed the San Diego Boiler Room Task Force, a consortium of federal, state, county and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies. The task force is recognized both nationally and internationally, and has served as a model for similar task forces around the United States. Mr. Wisdom, as project manager for the San Diego area, was instrumental in the success of the nationally acclaimed FBI sting investigation against illegal telemarketers, dubbed “Operation Disconnect.”
For his leadership role in combating illegal telemarketing, Mr. Wisdom was named 1992 San Diego FBI agent of the year, and in 1993 was recognized by the Wall Street Journal. He was profiled by a San Diego newspaper and listed in its yearly Who’s Who as a person who “. . . made a difference to the business community as a whole . . .” In 1994 Mr. Wisdom was honored by his alma mater, Seattle Pacific University, when he was presented with the prestigious Medallion Award for “recognized excellence in a field of work.” In early 1995, with more than thirty years of service to the United States, Mr. Wisdom retired from the FBI.
In 1996 Mr. Wisdom was designated as a Certified Fraud Examiner and was court qualified as an expert witness in the field of illegal telemarketing. He is a member of the Society of Former FBI Agents and the California Association of Licensed Investigators. Mr. Wisdom has taken courses in the environmental field at the University of California at San Diego.
